Africa Liberation Day 2024 Celebrations Focus on Pan-African Unity and Education

Every year, Africans come together to celebrate Africa Liberation Day. This significant day was originally chosen by the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which is now known as the African Union (AU).

The Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs (MoDVA) participates in this celebration annually, joining other Pan Africanists on May 25th. In 2024, MoDVA continued this tradition by partnering with Pan African Movements. This partnership reflects their commitment to the ideals of Patriotism and Pan Africanism, which are consistently promoted by President Y.K. Museveni. This year’s celebration theme was “Guaranteeing a Safe Environment for a Digital Pan African Education System: Creating a Center of Gravity for the United African States (UAS)”.

MoDVA took part in these celebrations to honor Pan-African heroes such as Kwame Nkrumah and Mwalimu Nyerere. They also recognized the brave officers and soldiers of the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) who have dedicated themselves to ensuring peace and stability across the African continent.

MoDVA highlighted that this day is especially meaningful for their comrades serving in Pan-African missions in Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and other locations.

The message concluded with a rallying cry for the continued struggle and unity of Africa: “Long live Africa. Alluta Continua.”
