Taxi Terrorists, Gangs Targeting Women on Entebbe Road Busted

The first trio of suspects, Abbas Katongole, Ronald Matovu, and Herbert Turyashemererwa, were nabbed by the ever-vigilant police. But the pièce de résistance was the capture of Isaac Nuwagaba, the ringleader and taxi driver extraordinaire, from Rwakimuli cell, Bukinda sub-county, in Rukiga district. Upon his arrest, the police found a treasure trove of evidence, including phones, a handbag, a yellow jumper, mobile covers, cash, and two taxis with suspiciously murderous histories.The gang’s reign of terror began on March 31, 2024, with the abduction and murder of 25-year-old Judith Awori, a waitress at Royal Ark Restaurant. Her body was discovered near St. Luke Church, strangled and discarded like yesterday’s news.

The saga continued on April 23, 2024, with another victim found in a sack, her body set aflame by a suspect caught on camera fleeing the scene.On April 29, 2024, Nassali Jenipher became the next tragic headline. Her body was dumped at Bweya cell, blindfolded and showing signs of strangulation. The horror didn’t end there. On May 9, 2024, another unidentified female victim was found along Jjanja-Lutembe beach road, her fate sealed by an unknown vehicle.

The final act in this grim drama involved Nangobi Sandra, whose disappearance on May 15, 2024, was reported by her worried mother. Sandra left home at 5 AM but never reached her workplace in Makindye. Her phone was switched off, and her whereabouts remained a mystery.

With substantial evidence linking the gang to these heinous crimes, the police have DNA samples from the victims and the taxis, confirming their involvement. The public is now being urged to be cautious when boarding taxis, especially those not from official stages and those with all-male occupants. Moving in groups is highly recommended to avoid becoming the next tragic chapter in this dark tale.

We can only applaud the joint efforts of the Crime Intelligence Unit, Flying Squad, CID, and Field Force Unit as the investigation continues. Their determination has brought some measure of justice in this violent case. The hunt for the remaining members of the taxi crime gang goes on, ensuring that Ugandan streets might just become a bit safer.
