Mufti Offers Condolences to the People of Iran
His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, the Mufti of Uganda, has extended his heartfelt condolences to Seyyed Ali Hussein Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, and the entire Iranian nation following the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi. The Mufti conveyed his sympathy personally to H.E. Majid Saffar, the Iranian Ambassador, on the evening of May 20, 2024. In his message, Sheikh Mubaje quoted the Qur’an, offering solace with verses emphasizing patience and faith during times of trial: “We shall certainly test you with fear, hunger, loss of wealth, lives and fruits. But give glad tidings to the patient when afflicted with calamity: saying Truly to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we shall return.”
Sheikh Mubaje also reflected on President Raisi’s recent official visit to Uganda and his meaningful interactions with top clerics under the Interreligious Council of Uganda (IRCU), including Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and current Chairman of the IRCU Council of Presidency. Mubaje praised President Raisi for his commitment to fostering positive causes.
During the meeting with Ambassador Saffar and Iranian Embassy staff, the Mufti offered special prayers for the late President’s soul and signed a condolence book in his honor.
The meeting was also attended by Hon. Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi, the Secretary General of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC).
