The Sacred Heart Lubaga Cathedral was on Friday, May 17th, filled with mourners as the country’s football family gathered to celebrate the life of the late legendary Uganda Cranes goalkeeper, and coach, Fred Kisitu Kajoba.
The Lubaga Requiem Mass marked a solemn tribute to the iconic figure who left an indelible mark on Ugandan football.
In a poignant moment at the Cathedral, an audio message recorded by Coach Kajoba himself was played during the Mass in which he expressed his love and concern for his family, particularly his wife, Maama Joan, and their children.
While in Tanzania, Kajoba said in the message how he sensed his time was running out and pleaded with his wife to keep their children safe, as he wasn’t feeling well.
At the mass, the football fraternity, including FUFA, friends, and family, received Coach Kajoba’s body at Entebbe International Airport on Thursday night. The outpouring of grief is a testament to the impact he had on the lives of many.
As the Requiem Mass continued, the football family in the country continues to pay their respects to a man who dedicated his life to the beautiful game.
moment of silence was also observed at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, before the kickoff of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifier game between Uganda and Zambia, in honour of the fallen football icon.
Today, Saturday, May 18th, his body will be at Kasubi Church of Uganda, opposite the Tombs in Mengo where a church service will be held in his memoir, and later in the afternoon, transported to his home town in Kiwawu, Busenya Village along Mityana road.
Along the way, there will be a stopover at Muduuma Catholic Church as the body passes en route to Kiwawu, Busenya Village where his final send-off and burial will be held on Sunday, May 19th at 2 pm.
