The call was made by the shadow minister for Internal Affairs Betty Nambooze while addressing journalists at parliament over the statement by the State minister of Internal Affairs Gen David Muhoozi yesterday to parliament on the status of the re-allocation of Luzira Prison to Buyikwe.
Nambooze challenges the 260 acreage of the current prison’s land saying it’s not true and grabbers are using this opportunity of relocating the prison to steal the other acres of land.
She says originally Luzira prisons owned 420 acres of land since 1927 of which 64 acres were allocated to the Uganda Investment Authority for industrialization and 13 acres were given to the Catholic Church for the construction of a school leaving a balance of 443 acres.
Nambooze also Mukono Municipality MP says that Parliament needs to interest itself in the whereabouts of the 183 acres which weren’t accounted for in the minister’s report.

Nambooze says the same trick being used on Luzira Prison’s Land was deployed to steal 250 acres of Kilinya Prison in Jinja under the disguise of building the same project of constructing a five-star hotel and a conference hall.
The government in 2008 requested for the reallocation of Kilinya prison to Bugungu island which up to now has never been realized to allow a Malaysian Investor to construct the hotel.

Nambooze has also appreciated the Speaker of Parliament Rt.Hon. Anita Among for allowing the opposition to move a motion next week against the relocation of Luzira Prisons Land.
