Kabaka birthday run draws Parliament’s active involvement

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa has called upon all 529 Members of Parliament to take part in the Kabaka Birthday Run, emphasising that their participation is supported by the Buganda Caucus, which has provided kits for each MP.

“The Buganda Caucus has procured a kit for every MP, so there is no excuse not to participate. If you choose not to run, kindly reimburse the funds allocated so that they can be directed to Mengo. Alternatively, if running isn’t feasible for you, consider contributing in other ways,” stated Tayebwa.

Speaker Anita Annet Among led a delegation of MPs to Bulange-Mengo in the morning to formally express Parliament’s endorsement of the annual Kabaka Birthday Run, scheduled for April 7, 2024. The proceeds from this event will aid in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Uganda.

Muwanga Kivumbi, Chairperson of the Buganda Caucus, extended gratitude to all MPs who accompanied Speaker Among during the visit to Mengo.

“Such collective efforts significantly contribute to fostering national unity and advancing Uganda’s progress,” remarked Kivumbi.

Aligned with last year’s theme, “Ending HIV/AIDS by 2030,” this year’s run underscores the ongoing global endeavour to combat one of the most pressing health challenges.

The previous edition of the Kabaka Birthday Run distributed over 100,000 kits to participants and was hailed as a resounding success.

The vision of the kingdom is to catalyze social and economic transformation for its people and Uganda at large. Central to this vision is prioritizing public health, recognizing its pivotal role in national development.
