Stanbic Bank has pledged a substantial sum of 500 million Ugandan shillings to Entebbe Club over the next three years, marking a significant commitment to the rebranded Stanbic Bank Golf Match Play Challenge. Scheduled to take place from March 16th to October 12th, this tournament promises to be a highlight in the golfing calendar.
For the past seven seasons, the Match Play tournament has been a prominent event at East Africa’s Oldest Golf Club, with Singleton Whisky, a luxury brand from Uganda Breweries, as the primary sponsor. However, the upcoming 8th edition will see Stanbic Bank taking on this role, with Singleton Whisky continuing its support as the alcoholic beverage partner.
Speaking at the tournament’s launch at their headquarters in Nakasero, Samuel Mwogeza, the Head of Private and Personal Banking at Stanbic Bank, emphasized the significance of golf in their customers’ lifestyles. He expressed the bank’s enthusiasm for the partnership and acknowledged the support of other sponsors, including CFAO Motors, Uganda Airlines, and DSTV Business.
The tournament format will include seven rounds, commencing with a qualifier to select 64 pairs who will then progress to the first round. Serwano Walusimbi, the club captain at Entebbe Club, expressed gratitude for Stanbic Bank’s sponsorship, highlighting the potential benefits for the golfing community. He described the tournament as both exciting and challenging, emphasizing the unique dynamic of match play where players confront not only their opponents but also the course itself.
In addition to Stanbic Bank’s substantial contribution, other sponsors have joined forces to enhance the tournament experience. CFAO Motors will offer a brand new Toyota LandCruiser as a prize for achieving an ace during the qualifying round, with another prestigious car up for grabs at the Grand Finale. DSTV Business has pledged cash prizes totaling 25 million shillings, along with 40 million shillings worth of additional prizes and giveaways for participants. Uganda Airlines will contribute by providing tickets to winners, offering travel opportunities to destinations such as Zanzibar, Dubai, and Mombasa.
The collaboration between Stanbic Bank and Entebbe Club, alongside the support of other sponsors, underscores a shared commitment to promoting golfing excellence and fostering community engagement. With significant financial backing and exciting prizes on offer, the Stanbic Bank Golf Match Play Challenge is set to captivate golf enthusiasts and players alike, promising an unforgettable sporting spectacle.
