Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has this afternoon visited the home of Kampala Central Member of Parliament, Hon. Muhammad Nsereko to condole with him and family over the passing of his dad, Alhajj Nsereko Abdul.
Alhajj Nsereko, a former journalist passed away today and will be buried tomorrow, Thursday January 10, 2024 at his ancestral home in Nama, Mukono District.
Speaker Among attended the vigil and passed her condolences to Nsereko and his family at their home in Bugolobi, Kampala.
Speaker Among eulogised Mzee Nsereko as a personal friend who occasionally telephoned her on Parliamentary activities.
“Alhajj Nsereko was my personal friend, he would call to tell me how I have done very well in the House…When we passed the law on Anti-Homosexuality, he called to thank me and the House for passing the law,” Among said.
She urged Hon. Nsereko, who is also a personal friend to take leadership of the family to uphold unity.
“Death is a reality but how prepared are you?…Mzee is gone, you [Hon. Nsereko] need to remain strong; keep Mzee’s legacy. Alhajj has gone spiritually but he has remained with us through his family,” she said.
Among was accompanied by the Parliamentary Commissioner, Hon. Esther Afoyochan (Zombo District), Hon. Baroda Watongola (Kamuli Municipality), Hon. Abubaker Kawalya (Rubaga North), Hon. Asuman Basalirwa (Bugiri Municipality) and Hon. Peter Mugema (Iganga Municipality).
