A group of activists under the banner of Africa People’s Climate Assembly have come out to pour cold water on the just concluded Africa Climate Summit.
At a press briefing held in Nairobi, the activists accused leaders at the event of focusing on colonial issues while ignoring the actual issues facing Africans.
Didn’t respond to African interests
According to Founding Director of think tank Power Shift Africa Mohamed Adow, the group hoped that the summit would focus on voices from the people on the ground.

He explained that members of the public had a lot of hope in the summit but, in his analysis, it was underwhelming.
Adow showered accolades on the debates for bringing forth some tangible benefits, among them boosting awareness of the climate crisis and exposing the vested interests in play.
“Regarding climate change, Africa has been described as least responsible, most impacted, least informed. That is now changing,” he started.
