Awilo Longomba, Afrigo Band to share stage this Saturday

After an exhilarating performance at the Kampala Serena Hotel in 2019, Congolese music legend Awilo Longomba is back  to Uganda for the Legends of Sound concert this weekend.

Two legends of music in the region; Afrigo Band led by Moses Matovu and Awilo Longomba are set to give Ugandans the ultimate musical extravaganza experience come 5th August 2023.

Slated to happen at the Sheraton Gardens, Kampala the concert dubbed “Legends of Sound” is one of the most anticipated concerts if we are to go by the success of Awilo’s past performances in Kampala.

Ugandans have the chance to once again experience the electrifying rhythms, infectious beats, and soul-stirring melodies from both music legends.

The iconic Afrigo Band, a legendary name in Uganda’s entertainment industry, is set to celebrate a remarkable milestone of 48 years in the music scene with an extraordinary event, “Legends of Sound Concert.”

Legends of Sound will take place at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel Gardens on Saturday, the 5th of August, where the band will share the stage with the renowned Lingala artist, Awilo Longomba from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

While holding the Press Conference at Sheraton Kampala on Thursday evening, Moses Matovu said the band has been postponing celebrations until they said let it be this time.

The Legends of Sound Concert promised to do an extraordinary night of musical excellence, as Afrigo Band takes the audience on a captivating journey through 48 years of soulful melodies and infectious rhythms that have resonated with audiences both locally and internationally.

Mr. Wasula one of the Directors of Afrigo band said, Mr Matovu is my cousin. “Our father was a musician. We also said why not try it out and it worked.   This  was at the meet and greet Cocktail  organized  by  Stanbic Bank Uganda  where the head of Legal Department  Candy Wekesa  hosted the legends on the Stanbic Love Radio with about 2000 listeners for the bank. This was after Awilo gave  his Story explaining  his long journey before becoming a celebrated Musician.

Wasula also said that Since their inception in 1975, Afrigo Band has been at the forefront of the Ugandan music scene, shaping the country’s cultural heritage and entertaining generations of music enthusiasts. Tickets for the event are now on sale at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel, Club Obligatto, Talent Africa Offices, and Alliance Française.

Moses Matovu said you must be disciplined, committed and respectful in order to keep the band going just like Afrigo  for this long.

Moses Matovu, the band leader and one of the founding members since 1975, expressed his excitement about the event, stating, “It’s an honor to celebrate 48 years of making music with Afrigo Band. The journey has been incredible, and we can’t wait to share all the magic with our fans, along with our friend Awilo.”

Awilo Longomba, the guest star from Congo, expressed his excitement, “Can you imagine Afrigo is going to play Techno-Soukous, playing with me on my entire set? It’s a big challenge, but we’re excited to take it on. Uganda, get ready for an electrifying experience.
