The boat left Kyamuswa Sub County for Kasenyi in Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District met strong waves on the lake in the night prompting distress calls from the coxswain.

However, the boat later changed direction to Nsazi Landing site in Mukono where they expected to make an emergency landing.

However, sources from Nsazi landing site told this website that, boat could not safely make it to Nsazi and capsized.

Twenty people are said to have died instantly while 10 people survived and we’re saved by fishermen at the landing site.

The Marine Police and it’s sister security agencies are now heading to Nsazi Landing site to ascertain magnitude of the damage caused by the accident.

This is not the first accident to happen on the lake. Last month, four people died instantly as a cargo boat they were moving in from Kisaba Landing site to Mukono capsized.

The strong waves on the Lake in the months of June, July and August have always been a stumbling block to people traveling to and from Distant islands in the Island District of Kalangala where no major Marine Vessel is facilitated by Government of Uganda.
