Addis Ababa, July 31/2023 (ENA) Ethiopia has achieved fruitful bilateral and multilateral diplomatic activities during the second Russia-Africa summit, according to Government Communication Service State Minister Selamawit Kassa.

In her briefing, State Minister Selamawit said that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Russian President Vladimir Putin have expressed mutual position on the need to strengthen the political and cultural diplomacy of the two countries in the economic sphere.

Ethiopia has used the occasion to showcase the tangible developmental results it has registered, she stated, adding that Russia has pledged to support African countries thrive of food security through technology and respective sectors have signed bilateral agreements.

Prime Minister Abiy and President Putin had successful discussions and have signed practicable agreements; she pointed out, and indicated that Ethiopia’s effort to ensure food security in agriculture was recognized as exemplary.

According to the State Minister, the leaders have also exchanged views on ways to strengthening the 125 years old diplomatic relations of the two countries in economic and social spheres.

President Putin has applauded Ethiopia’s effort to ensure food security and expressed interest to support it through technological inputs, she explained.

During the occasion, Russia has expressed desire to support Ethiopia with technology, investment and inputs in its effort to ensuring food security, the state minister indicated.

According to her, customs service cooperation, establishment of biological science research center, air transport cooperation, and roadmap for the use of nuclear energy for development are among the agreements signed between the two countries.

Ethiopia has called on Russia to support Ethiopia’s industrialization process, Selamawit said, and added that consensus has been reached to work together in order to resolve any challenges and further strengthen trade relation.

Ethiopia has expressed interest to host the upcoming 3rd Russia-Africa summit, it was learned.

Various Ethiopian institutions have also held discussions during the summit with their Russian counterparts on ways to strengthening the bilateral relations of the countries, she added.

The need to bolstering bilateral cooperation on peace and security, technology, media and communication are among the areas discussed between the respective institutions.

Ethiopia has also called on Russia to exert efforts in collaboration with African countries with a view to curbing the soaring of prices in oil and agricultural inputs.
