Man Utd head coach Erik ten Hag has been tipped to “break hearts” during pre-season as his plans for a ‘hell week’ have been revealed.
Ten Hag is preparing for his second season in charge of Man Utd after he helped them finish third in the Premier League and win the Carabao Cup in 2022/23.
The Dutchman’s first year at United was a rollercoaster but he was able to overcome the Cristiano Ronaldo saga, a rough start and big losses against Liverpool and Man City to enjoy a successful season.
After United’s 4-0 loss to Brentford in his second league game in charge, Ten Hag went old school and made his players run over eight miles during training to make amends for their awful performance.
Ten Hag will be aware that United will have to improve this summer if they are going to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
The Sun are now reporting that Ten Hag ‘will put United stars through a gruelling boot camp that staff have dubbed hell week as he chases a flying start next season’.
The head coach is ‘determined that a lack of fitness will not be an excuse for his squad’. He is ‘expected back behind his desk as early as next weekend’ and he ‘plans four days of double sessions and there will be an even greater emphasis on building stamina across his squad’.
A source for The Sun said: “Last summer Erik had players doing press-ups and other fitness forfeits to try and build spirit.
“This time it sounds like some might actually have their spirits broken!”

Man Utd are expected to be busy this summer as Ten Hag overhauls his squad. With Mason Mount and Randal Kolo Muani reportedly among his preferred targets, sales are necessary and Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Alex Telles and Eric Bailly have been told that they are “allowed to leave”.
“Man United are preparing to make their first outbound moves in the summer transfer window,” Romano wrote for Caught Offside.
“Alex Telles and Eric Bailly have both been put up for sale by the club and it is really interesting because neither are in Erik Ten Hag’s plans for Man United’s future project so they’re allowed to leave – the club know both players will not command big fees so they’re willing to sell them for low asking prices.
“I don’t know exactly what these figures will be but what I can say for sure is that they’ll be low – really low.
“As for what teams may be interested in signing the Man United defenders; there is interest in Telles from teams in Portugal with French clubs monitoring Bailly. Nothing is confirmed or agreed yet – the race is still open.”
