Arsenal have finished the Premier League season with the most goals scoring in a single campaign after their 5-0 win over Wolves on Sunday.
Mikel Arteta’s side already had second place secured ahead of the final day of the Premier League season, with Manchester City retaining their status as champions.
But Mikel Arteta’s side managed to break their own personal Premier League record as their 5-0 win at home to Wolves ensured that they finished the campaign with 88 goals.
Arsenal’s previous best in the Premier League was the 87 goals scored in the 2004-05 season where Arsene Wenger’s side finished runners-up behind Chelsea.
Granit Xhaka, who potentially played his final game for Arsenal, scored two early goals for the Gunners before Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus and Jakub Kiwior struck to complete the win.
Arteta addressed Arsenal’s supporters on the pitch at the Emirates Stadium after the game and urged fans to ‘enjoy the journey’ as the club still wait for their first Premier League title since 2004.
‘Together we have reconnected the soul of this football club and the soul of this football club is you guys,’ Arteta said.
‘We know what is our destination to bring success, joy and trophies to this club but in the meantime please enjoy the journey.
‘Thank you for your trust, patience and the unconditional love you are showing to the team, staff and the club.’
