Man Utd are reportedly ‘ready to pay’ Dominik Livakovic’s €10m ‘exit clause’ to sign him from Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb this summer.

The Red Devils have consistently been linked with potential goalkeeper targets over the past year with David De Gea due to be out of contract at the end of this season.

It has been debated throughout this season whether De Gea needs to be replaced by Erik ten Hag, with him regularly being caught out when the ball is at his feet.

United had the option to automatically extend De Gea’s deal on the same terms until 2024 but the club’s hierarchy instead want him to sign a new down on lower terms.

Recent reports have indicated that De Gea is set to sign a new contract. But with him now aged 32, United will have to identify his replacement at some point over the next couple of years.

Croatian outlet Jutarnji are now claiming that Man Utd ‘wants’ to sign ‘one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Livakovic, and they are ready to pay his exit clause worth 10 million euros.’

The FA Cup final won’t disappoint

The report claims Galatasaray, Real Sociedad and Villarreal are ‘still interested’ in Livakovic, but Man Utd would have to be considered the favourites in the race for the 28-year-old.

Livakovic has spent his whole career playing for Dinamo Zagreb. The Croatia international earned plaudits for his performances at the World Cup last year and he narrowly missed out on the Golden Glove award to Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez.

Speaking earlier this month, Paul Scholes argued that De Gea is not right for Ten Hag.

“Look, he’s been a fantastic goalkeeper for Man Utd for such a long time, there were rumours a few years ago when it looked like he wanted to go back to Madrid, going to Real Madrid didn’t quite happen, and look, he’s been a fantastic goalkeeper for United,” Scholes told BT Sport.

“I think the only weakness you’d say is he’s not great with his feet, he’s not a brilliant footballer from the back and I’d think this manager does want that.

“On the other hand, how do you replace a goalkeeper of his quality? To me that [clean sheets] are the most important thing, but modern day football, they want a goalkeeper who can play football, don’t they?”
