LWENGO, UGANDA: Traffic Police has named victims of the fatal car crash that killed at least nine occupants of the same vehicle on Friday afternoon in Lwengo District along the Masaka-Mbarara highway.

The nasty head-on collision happened at around 4pm at a black spot at Kyoko Village near Kinoni Trading Centre when a Toyota Alphard from Kampala heading towards Mbarara City crashed into a fuel tanker coming from Mbarara and headed towards Kampala side.

Ms Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic police spokesperson attributed said the driver of the fuel tanker and his turn man sustained minor injuries and were briefly admitted at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital before being transferred to Kampala hospitals.

Relatives speak out

Mr Yiga Bawakana, a relative of Bbaale who received the tragic news on Friday evening said the deceased was going to Isingiro District to celebrate Easter with Ntege’s family when the unfortunate accident happened.

“He (Ntege) was a close friend of Bbaale. He moved with his family in their car from Mbalwa in Kira Municipality and drove to Bbaale’s home in Kawanda where he left the car. Both families chose to travel in one car, but unfortunately, they never reached their destination,” Bawakana said.

Police attributed the cause of the crash that left two other people injured, to reckless driving from the Alphard c453ar driver who failed to control the vehicle when it came into a head-on collision with the fuel tanker.Source:Daily Express Uganda
