Thomas Tuchel has confirmed his intention to raid Chelsea and add Anthony Barry to his Bayern Munich coaching staff after being unveiled as the Bundesliga giants’ new head coach this week. Tuchel has replaced Julian Nagalsmann as manager at Bayern after being swiftly appointed to take over in the hopes of winning the Bundesliga and Champions League.

Tuchel was dismissed from his post at Stamford Bridge back in September last year, just days after the summer transfer window had closed. The German had fallen out with new owner Todd Boehly following a number of disagreements regarding transfer plans, with results also not going Chelsea’s way at the start of the season.

Graham Potter was appointed as Tuchel’s successor, but things have not gone quite as well as Boehly had hoped. The former Blues boss could return to Stamford Bridge in the Champions League semi-finals if Bayern can beat Manchester City and if Chelsea can navigate their way through to the last four by overcoming a tough quarter-final tie against Champions League holders Real Madrid.

Tuchel has fired a warning at Bayern’s Champions League rivals whilst confirming his plan to raid the Blues for a key member of staff. Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Tuchel said: “My coaching staff wasn’t prepared [to be appointed at Bayern] either, so a big thank you to their families for their flexibility.

“Arno Michels and Zsolt Low, who have been working with me for over ten years, will be there. We’re hoping to add Anthony Barry, who is currently at Chelsea.”

Tuchel’s appointment came out of the blue as he was swiftly confirmed as Nagalsmann’s replacement. “The timing was surprising, I didn’t expect it and there was no contact beforehand,” the German added.

“I assumed that I would continue my career abroad. The first interview was on Tuesday evening.

“The size of the challenge was the deciding factor that I wanted to do it. I’ve been in very close contact with Bayern before, but back then I couldn’t wait.

“It would never be appropriate to pressure anyone. Things went very quickly this time, it’s a top solution for me.

“The DNA of FC Bayern is all about winning, also about the way you play football. This squad is one of the most talented and best squads in Europe.

“I’m looking forward to working with this squad. You can compete for every title with this squad.

“The Premier League is, of course, extremely exceptional, the biggest challenge in Europe. Bayern have a squad that would play for the title in the Premier League, both in quality and depth.”

Tuchel’s first game in charge will be against former side Dortmund, who remain huge title rivals to Bayern. The German head coach will hope he can have the same impact as he did when he took over mid-season at Stamford Bridge by going on to win the Champions League.
