Manchester United’s forward, Marcus Rashford, will not participate in England’s next Euro 2024 qualifying matches due to an injury.

After picking up an injury earlier in the game, the 25-year-old played for 83 minutes as United defeated Fulham 3-1 on Sunday.

After experiencing the problem before Aleksandar Mitrovic’s goal, Rashford was able to continue, although it was disappointing for Red Devils fans to see him unable to finish the entire 90 minutes.

Rashford would have been contending for England’s starting spot in their Euro 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine later this month after accruing 27 goals and nine assists in 44 games during the 2022–23 season.

The striker will not participate in the forthcoming matches for the Three Lions as he recovers with his club, but it is not believed that he suffered any significant injuries.

Other withdrawals

Mason Mount

Mason Mount has also withdrawn due to injury, which Chelsea’s head coach Graham Potter announced last week.

After missing Chelsea’s past four games in all competitions due to a pubic bone injury, the 24-year-old was part of the Three Lions call-up last week.

But, Blues manager Graham Potter was surprised by Mount’s selection and promptly ruled out the possibility of the playmaker donning the England jersey during the break.

Pope reported being injured after Friday’s 2-1 success over Nottingham Forest by Newcastle United, and Rashford was hurt during Sunday’s 3-1 FA Cup quarterfinal triumph over Fulham by Manchester United.

Despite Gareth Southgate’s decision to forgo bringing in backup for Rashford or Mount, Tottenham’s Fraser Forster has been called up to replace Pope.

With Hugo Lloris’ injury in February, seasoned goalie Forster has played in some of Tottenham’s games.

Pope has been replaced in the squad by Fraser Forster, a goalkeeper for Tottenham Hotspur, who receives his first call-up for England in a year after playing as a substitute against Switzerland and Ivory Coast.

Forster has started each of Spurs’ nine games in all competitions since Hugo Lloris sustained a knee injury at the beginning of February, recording shutout victories over Chelsea, AC Milan, and West Ham United.

Only six England appearances have been made by the former Southampton player, and his most recent senior international action came in a 2-1 friendly victory over Australia in May 2016.

Forster will face off against Aaron Ramsdale and Jordan Pickford for the keeper selection. Southgate hasn’t called Rashford or Mount’s replacements up yet though.

This season, Foster, 35, has made 13 appearances for the Spurs and has five clean sheets to his credit with a 68.8 save percentage.

Rashford’s departure will be a particular blow to Southgate because the United attacker is in top form right now, having scored 27 goals in 44 games for his team so far this year.
