Man Utd are continuing their pursuit of Benjamin Sesko as a striker target, according to a report revealing they are now watching two of his RB Salzburg teammates too.
Sesko scored a hat-trick for Salzburg on Sunday, when they beat Rapid Wien 4-2. His goals came within a seven-minute window towards the end of the match, effectively winning it for his side.
The Slovenia international is due to switch from Salzburg to RB Leipzig in the summer. Beyond then, he could progress further in the game.
Indeed, he is already on Man Utd’s radar for a future transfer. There have even been claims that they could hijack his move to Leipzig and sign him in the summer.
United need another centre-forward after losing Cristiano Ronaldo in November. They have filled the void by bringing in Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley, but he might not be of the level required.
Therefore, there is likely to be a more long-term option arriving at Old Trafford in the summer if United can get their way. They might want to try their luck for Sesko, or at least keep him in mind for the future.
According to 90min, Man Utd had scouts in attendance to see him score his hat-trick at the weekend. Therefore, they will have taken encouragement from what they saw.
The report admits they may still prefer to see how he develops at a higher level with Leipzig next season. But what is for sure is that Sesko has been doing a lot of things right in his career so far.
Man Utd looking at another Salzburg pair
Interestingly, it is then added that Man Utd have been looking at two of Sesko’s Salzburg teammates too.
Per the report, they are keeping an eye on right-back, Amar Dedic, and midfielder, Maurits Kjaergaard.
Dedic is a 20-year-old graduate of Salzburg’s academy and has already become a full member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.
Kjaergaard is one year younger than Dedic, but represents the Denmark under-21 national team already. He previously developed with Liefering, who are Salzburg’s feeder club.
Like Sesko, they seem to be talents for the future. But Man Utd will be thinking about their long-term vision, so will want to get as much information as possible about players like this.
They may need to reinforce at right-back if they sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the summer. Besides, the future of Diogo Dalot is still not entirely certain.
In midfield, meanwhile, there are increasing doubts about whether Scott McTominay will stay beyond this season. Furthermore, Marcel Sabitzer – coincidentally, a former Salzburg player – is only currently on loan.
Whether Dedic and Kjaergaard would be capable of filling any of those voids, only time will tell. But it seems something else has caught United’s interest on their missions for Sesko.
