Zlatan Ibrahimovic played alongside his own son for the Under-18s on Wednesday against the senior side, just a day after their 1-0 win over Tottenham in the Champions League.
The talismanic Swedish striker was on the same team as his own son, Maximilian, for the youth side that took on those that played either zero minutes or very few against Spurs on Tuesday evening.
Maximilian was deployed out on the left, while the 41-year-old took up his regular position through the middle in the training match.
The 16-year-old has been on the books at the San Siro since summer 2022, when he arrived from the Hammarby youth set-up in his native Sweden.
The legendary striker’s other son Vincent is also at the Rossoneri, with both youngsters at the same club as their infamous father.
Ibrahimovic is a name that has been near the forefront of European football for over a decade now, but lining up alongside his own son in a training match perhaps belies his age better than anything.
At 41, he has achieved almost everything there is to gain in the game, winning trophies in five different countries – although the Champions League has always evaded his grasp.
But playing alongside his own child was perhaps not a milestone he will have anticipated passing.
He took to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon to share footage of the match, with the caption: ‘DNA’
However the senior side were keen to spoil the occasion, with the out-of-touch Charles De Ketelaere bagging a brace and Ante Rebic getting on the scoresheet as the senior side proved their worth.
Ibrahimovic was not the only member of the first-team to be involved in the game, though, and was joined by 24-year-old goalkeeper Devis Vasquez, who joined the club in January.
The Swedish star was notably snubbed by Stefano Pioli for the Italian club’s Champions League squad, and has been struggling with a knee issue.
Ibrahimovic is yet to start a single game for the Rossoneri in all competitions in 2022-23, having undergone knee surgery last summer.
De Ketelaere in particular will have relished the goals after his miss on Tuesday evening, after Ivan Perisic somehow managed to clear his header with almost the whole goal to aim for off the line.
The Italians still ended up on the right side of a 1-0 final scorer, but take only a slender lead to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and risk being dumped out at the last 16.
Manager Pioli has come under pressure in recent weeks, with the reigning champions struggling in Serie A.
The victory over Spurs was just their third in 10 games in all competitions, with the side fifth in the Italian top-flight and 18 points behind runaway leaders Napoli.
They are next in action on the road to Monza on Saturday, before hosting fellow European hopefuls Atalanta eight days later.
