Former President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta joins family and friends of the late Prof. George Albert Omore Magoha at the Maseno University, Yala Campus in Siaya County, for the funeral service of the former Education Cabinet Secretary.

SIAYA, 11th February 2023; (OFPP) – Former President Uhuru Kenyatta joined the family and friends of the late former Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Albert Amore Magoha in giving him a befitting send-off at his Umiru home, Siaya County.

The former Head of State, who referred to the late Prof. Magoha as a friend, eulogized him as a patriot whose commitment and dedication brought transformative reforms to the education sector at a time when the education system was experiencing numerous cases of cheating.

Hailing the academic giant as a devoted public servant, the fourth President of the Republic of Kenya noted the 100% transition of primary to secondary school and the improved quality of education in the country as some of the milestones achieved under the former cabinet secretary’s leadership.

“Under his leadership at the ministry…. Magogha managed to move the transition rate from primary to secondary education to 100%. Making sure that no child was left without an opportunity for education, making sure that no child ended their education at the primary school level because of lack of fees or facilities”, he said.

The former Head of State also celebrated the former cabinet secretary as an efficient, professional academician who joined his East Africa Community (EAC) colleagues to develop the curriculum for universities now being emulated in the region.

Kenyatta said professor Magoha would be remembered as a committed patriot who took on the challenge of refreshing our curriculum to make it better suited to help our children face future challenges.

The great son of Gem was eulogized by many as a legendary academic, surgeon, administrator, education mentor, and public servant.

Other top leaders at the funeral were former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and former and current cabinet and principal secretaries.
