Members of parliament on the presidential affairs committee have directed the minister for science and technology to submit a list of the officials in the ministry who changed the project design of the Factory model specialized centre that is being constructed in Lyantonde district to offer specialized training to Ugandans who have just finished university to further build their innovation ideas.
According to the documents which the committee has received copies, the project was designed to have ten components but the officials wrote to the contractor and directed the contractor to omit three components including textiles, molding and leather which the MPs are opposed to.
The committee chairperson who is also the Adjumani district woman MP Jesicca Ababiku noted that parliament passed a loan of 90 million USD for the project but the officials in the ministry are changing it to vocational training which is housed under the ministry of education.
Tochi county MP Okot Peter noted there are a lot of errors which were made during the initial stages of the project that need to be done.
He noted that Ugandans should not be duped to construct a vocational institute which is already housed under the ministry of education.
The committee vice chairperson Naome Kabasharira noted that the ministry should bring the list of the officials who authorized the change in the project design.
The minister for science and technology Dr Monica Musenero noted that they are negotiating with the contractor to ensure that the project is implemented as it was planned.
