Parliament:The Ministry of Finance planning and economic development has failed to present the budget framework paper 2023/2024 before parliament’s committee on budget.
It should be remembered that the ministry last month tabled a 49.9 trillion budget framework paper before parliament and the ministry had been summoned to table and explain the contents of the document before the committee.
The chairperson of the budget committee Patrick Isiagi has informed the committee attended by chairpersons of different sectoral committees that the ministry had informed him that they were not ready and asked for more time up to Monday next week to present the document.
Some MPs however have asked the chairperson to postpone the meeting to Tuesday but Opolot says the committee wasn’t ready to lose another day.
Isiagi says parliament committees operate under sectors yet the budget framework paper was drafted under programs and hence they were interested in understanding which programs fall under which sector to enable parliament to design a strategy on how to process it.
The Mawogola south MP Goreth Namugga says it’s a shame that the ministry could not alert them in time that they would not be able to make it in time.
