Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) will need to mobilise sh35,851,321,000 (thirty five billion, eight hundred fifty one million, three hundred and twenty one thousand) to carry out their activities during their coming financial year starting January 1, 2023.

FUFA President Hon. Engineer Moses Magogo.

If realized, the expenditure will be sh6bn more than what was spent in the year 2021 which accounted for sh29,988,783,197 (twenty nine billion, nine hundred eighty eight million, seven hundred eighty three thousand, one hundred ninety seven shillings).

The revelation was made by local soccer governing body president Moses Magogo during the FUFA assembly that sat in Gulu on Saturday, October 15, 2022.

The biggest expenditure, about a third of the projected total, will go to national team competitions that will consume sh12.8bn. This is probably due to the fact that the senior men’s team, The Uganda Cranes, will be involved in the 2024 AFCON qualifiers.

Infrastructure, facilities and equipment will take close to sh5bn while sport competitions have been allocated close to sh3.8b. Administration (sh3bn), stakeholders (sh3bn), marketing, finance, football development and governance are the other major areas where the federation is targeting to inject money.

To realize this, FUFA is hopeful government intervention will be key and they hope to finance almost half of the budget from government grants. According to the budget income estimates, FUFA is expecting sh17bn from the national budget while grants from FIFA will total to over sh9bn.

Sponsors are expected to bring into the FUFA coffers close to sh5bn as CAF chips in with a sh3.2m grant.

Minister of state for sports Peter Ogwang who was in attendance as Magogo detailed the expenditure for the year 2021, was visibly impressed and when he rose to address the assembly wondered where other federations put the grants they receive from international bodies.

“I have been listening attentively and the FUFA president has explained well how grants from FIFA are put to good use. But I have never heard how other federations use the money they get from their mother international bodies,” Ogwang commented.

He asked rugby, boxing and athletics how they use the money from International Rugby Board (IRB), FIBA and IAAF respectively.
