The 98th FUFA general assembly convenes at Gulu’s Acholi Inn on Saturday, where among the key issues to be discussed will be football infrastructure development.

Uganda has plans to put in a joint bid with neighbours Tanzania to host the African Nations Cup but lack of facilities to host the biggest continental football event remains a bottleneck for FUFA.

Uganda football federation communications director who is also the spokesman for the soccer body, Ahmed Hussein, said infrastructure development will be top on the agenda among the issues to be discussed by the 88 delegates on Saturday.

“Government has made a commitment to develop football infrastructure in all regions in the country and to that effect it has committed sh6bn for Masaka Recreation Ground. The delegates will most likely discuss this development and map a way forward for FUFA’s involvement or input,” Hussein explained.

Hussein added that the establishment of community clubs is also likely to be on the agenda. The FUFA executive committee feels community clubs are key in recruiting masses of fans to the game but these are lacking.

The FUFA Drum, a competition played on a regional basis, draws masses of supporters to rally their sides and FUFA feels clubs in a similar set up will draw a large following and hence give the game more popularity.

FUFA boss Moses Magogo, who is also Member of Parliament for Budiope East in Buyende District will highlight some of the achievements his administration has managed in the past year. Undoubtedly FUFA TV will be at the forefront.

“Oh yes, TV is a big leap in the right direction for Ugandan football and local sport in general,” exclaimed Hussein, who said that the fact that all competitions are running after the Covid 19 pandemic shutdown is a big relief for the federation.

Delegates, who will after the deliberations be treated to a football match between the Uganda Cranes (select side) and northern region, are expected to assemble by 9am, the time when deliberations will start.
