NEWS– The Minister of Lands Hon Judith Nabakooba has been elected the Chairperson of African Union Specialised Technical Committee on Local Government, Public Services, Urbanisation and Human Settlement.
The committee’s chair was supposed to come from North Africa but due to some reasons, the block asked for some time to consult, and this prompted members to resolve that Uganda as the first Chair takes over the position in the interim.
This took place during the Committtee 4th Meeting Regular Session sitting in Egyptian Capital in Cairo which started on 29th and ended on 31st August 2022 where Minister Nabakooba was representing Uganda.
Minister Nabakooba said that the election was a big achievement for Uganda and it will help in ensuring that Uganda benefits from the committee activities.
The conference hosted delegations from 55 African countries along with representatives of the United nations Human Settlements Programme and the world food Programme, the United cities and local governments of Africa, and the United Nations economic commission for Africa.
The Conference attended by African Ministers of local development was aimed at exchanging experiences to face African challenges, review climate change and food security files.
