Newcastle and West Ham are just two of the clubs interested in Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, according to a report.
The impending arrival of Casemiro at Old Trafford has seen a number of enquiries regarding the Scotland international.
Casemiro’s transfer from Real Madrid has been agreed. And United have announced the player now has to pass a medical, agree personal terms and receive international clearance.
Non of those hurdles are expected to pose a problem. Although the 30-year-old is unlikely to be signed in time to face Liverpool on Sunday. Still, he is likely to become one of the first names on the team sheet. He played over 40 times for Real last term and his influence has been significant at the Bernabeu in recent years.
Casemiro’s arrival is likely to directly impact McTominay’s game time and 90mins claim the midfielder is a wanted man.
Newcastle are looking for a replacement for the injured Jonjo Shelvey. Meanwhile West Ham need someone to come in for the retired Mark Noble. And the report claims David Moyes is a “fan of the player”.
There is also interest from Italy and Germany, while Everton, Southampton and Leicester are also believed to be keen. In fact the report claims United have been “inundated with interest”.
McTominay started the defeat against Brighton and was a half-time sub in the demoralising 4-0 defeat to Brentford. His start to the season, like United’s, has been slow.
McTominay was deemed ‘pivotal’ in June
However, before the season kicked off the Daily Mirror reported that McTominay was seen as a ‘pivotal’ member of the squad by Erik ten Hag. The Dutch boss was certainly not expected to sanction the departure of McTominay even though he may not be seen as an automatic starter.
And while James Garner is available for sale, it’s worth stating that United have not made McTominay available for transfer. Neither has the Scotland star asked to leave.
However, if it becomes clear that he will be second best behind the likes of Casemiro and Fred, who have been paired together at international level, then the 25-year-old may have a decision to make.
McTominay has three years left on his contract. And earlier in the summer Ten Hag was keen to work to develop him. Whether the boss’ opinion on McTominay has changed is unclear. But Ten Hag’s options have swelled and McTominay’s future will become a lot clearer in the next 10 days.
