This Year UNAA is happy to introduce CNN International News Anchor Zain E. Asher as our Keynote Speaker.
Zain Ejiofor Asher is a fellow Diasporan that was born to first-generation Nigerian parents in South London and who knows firsthand how it is to grow up as an African Immigrant in the Diaspora, and the harsh realities that immigrant children sometimes have to face to persevere such as systemic racial bias, bullying, and the inferiority complexity that comes with these biases.
She is a British Nigerian news anchor at CNN International, based in New York City and is one of the few anchors of African origin on CNN International. She currently anchors the network’s primetime, global news show One World with Zain Asher airing weekdays at 12pm ET.
In her memoir “Where The Children Take Us: How One Family Achieved the Unimaginable”, Zain E. Asher pays tribute to her mother’s strength and determination to raise successful children in the shadow of tragedy in the Diaspora and was published by HarperCollins in April 2022.
She is a remarkable woman who was raised by her widowed mother with three siblings, after losing her father in a tragic car accident when she was just five years old.
Zain Ejiofor Asher is graduate of Oxford University and Columbia University, where she studied French and Spanish and graduated with a distinction in oral Spanish. Her siblings include; two brothers, Oscar-nominated Actor, 2 time Emmy Winner and BAFTA Winner Chiwetel Ejiofor, successful entrepreneur Obinze and her sister Kandibe is a doctor. Zain lives in New York City with her husband and two sons.
