It was an impressive display by Man Utd who took a 3-0 lead into half-time, thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho, Fred and Anthony Martial, before youngster Facundo Pellistri added a fourth after the interval.

Although it’s only a friendly match, it will no doubt provide the Red Devils with a bit of a morale boost after losing 9-0 on aggregate to Liverpool over their two Premier League matches last season.

And Ferdinand wasn’t getting carried away with the scoreline despite admitting he saw “a few things we been crying out for”.

The Man Utd legend wrote on Twitter: “Seen a few things we been crying out for the last few years… But we’ve seen it sparingly before. All in all.. good day at the office! I’m feeling the [Erik] Ten Hag look on the touch line.”

And Ferdinand reserved special praise for Charlie Savage – who came on along with ten others at half-time – after putting in a bright display against Liverpool.

Ferdinand added: “Calm & Composed! Done himself and the family proud. Time to go again.”

And new Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag says his side are “just getting started” as he works to “cut out the mistakes” he saw against Liverpool.

“I’m satisfied today,” Ten Hag told MUTV. “It was a team with a great spirit and we know we are just getting started. We made some mistakes in the press, we conceded some chances, but we created a lot.

“We have to work hard to cut out the mistakes but, of course, we are happy. I know we have good players. We have started to build a team and I am happy with the first game.

“It will take a lot of time. I have seen a lot of mistakes. Liverpool played three teams, they were not at their strongest. We will not overestimate this result.

“But still, I have seen some really good things. A lot of speed and creativity up front.”
