The Subject of leadership is very close to my heart. Iam very passionate about developing leaders.

Iam so passionate about it that I even started a School to train young leaders.

When we started out in this venture with Lorna,( Lorna Magara is  Makerere University Council Chairperson),people were saying.” But you are so young! What do you know about leadership?

We went ahead with the calling. You do not need to know everything to start.

The Bible says, everyman has been given about 70 years to leave. But  for the reason of strength, you live for 80 or 120 years?  We don’t live for a long time.

So, I want to demonstrate life using 12 bottles of Water.

“What do you want to do during this long time you would like to live. What is the time for”? That’s the big question. What goals do you have for your time on earth? There is time for everything.

What am i saying?, Think long time!

What do you want to do for the rest of the time? There is time for the University, and then we move on to another Season of life discovering our gigs. Most of you here are under 30.

So far, you’ve lived for a quarter of the potential of your life.  You need to be very focused before you get out to find more energies to venture in other roles of life. When an opportunity presents its self, just go for it.

It’s very important to be considerate of your next stage of life after School. You find a miserable woman and people will ask, what happened? Be intentional. Be focused on the goals you want to achieve.

There is no problem with being pregnant. It can only be a Challenge when it’s not what you planned.

It’s a blessing to be pregnant but you need to have planned well. Just know that ,the women, the women in us,we are privileged because we are the only people with wombs that can carry a Child. We’re the nurturers of Society. But, not in a demeaning way!

When you know what you want in a particular season, you are intentional. It’s a blessing. Because of that, there is a season when you have Children. Do not fight it but to cherish. Just plan well.

When you’re in that season of your life, Celebrate, rejoice. You can even choose to  stay at home from work.

The hormones are doing their work. Your color will change when you are pregnant but the normal one will come back after you have delivered. There is a Uniqueness about you being a woman. It has a beauty. Think long term. Life has seasons. If life requires that you  stay out of work, please do that.

Enjoy your various seasons of life.

When you know what you want in a particular season of life, you are very intentional and there can be a challenge.

-Think long term. Think all of life. Think when do I want another person to walk into my life. Think strategically.

When do I want to do my Second- or third-degree Degree?

I just want to give you my personal life.

I was running a law firm“When my Children were very young.

I had to close the business to take care of my Children.

At that time, people were saying “Dorothy, you are killing your career “Things are not going to be good for you yet you are a great leader. You are not doing anything.

After looking after my Children, I furthered my Studies. I didn’t enroll online. That time it wasn’t available yet. There was time to reconnect. I bought a lot of books to still remain relevant.

Even me, I was tempted to think the same.

But I knew this was a season in my life. After this time, I reopened my firm, I did many things to remain relevant. I bought many books and went to School again to catch up.

. I still went for social events.

-Intergrade all of life.

Life is a whole. Life is like  a Circle. It  is a continuous Circle. It’s not sections.

Think about you’re emotional and Physical fitness, career, Family, Prayer, Wealth, Vision, Children, your networks at the same time. Sometimes you need to juggle a number of things at a go.

You can not pursue one rabbit only and you want to come back.By the time you get  back, others will  have disappeared. Think about life as a whole not only apart.

Throw all your cry stables on the table and not only one.

So, think about life in an integrated way.

  • -A Clear Road map.
  • A Clear roadmap for your life. We have gifts that are meant for us to determine our roadmaps. What do I want to happen on my road? Do I need to know certain high-profile people like Members of Parliament? What do I need on day one, year one, two, three?
  • I knew my road map.Thats why I got my other degrees.
  • -Action habbit Lifestyle: Take action. We are all given same amount of time, hours etc
  • There are so many opportunities that come our way.
  • Habbit Lifestyle: Juggling a number of roles at the same time. I ask myself, how can I do both. How much can I do with the time I have.
  • Think Long term: Intergrade life.
  • We experience leadership in life in the Corporate World on the Personal level every day.
  • The best Pillars of life are four I have given to guide you.
  • This is your time to show impact. What do I need on day one, day two,Week1,Year 1,year2.

Choose the best relationships to guide you.

The best form of government is self-Government.

  • Do not ignore anything.
  • Think about life like your personal meal. You need to balance the diet.
  • Do not ignore the Spiritual life, Physical fitness. Share this information with at least one person when you get out of here.
  • Do not ignore one part and run for the other.
  • Identify your areas of strength. Focus on those. This is your time to leave with urgency.
  • If you have set up a good pillar, in the next season of life, you’re going to be influential.

 The Youth MP Hon.
Hon. Phionah Nyamutooro:

She said, all  she wanted after  joining  the University were two clear goals. To become a Guild President  and to get a first Class Degree.

She said her biggest Challenge was conducting the previous  Campaigns the time she wanted to become a legislator. This did not come as some men who were established and  influential in  the Society  wanted to use her taking advantage of her being a woman. They said the only way she would  sail through was after accepting their sexual demands.

“These were tricky  times for me.Remember, it was the time when Covid19 paqndemic hit hard  and gatherings were not allowed.I had to move from one end of the Country to another and then go back looking for Votes.

Post Bank Chief Operating Officer Janey Nakato :

She said”we as women, we canot be left out  of the Picture to  transform this Country.

We as bankers, that is what we believe in. We have to ensure that the livelihoods of Ugandans are transformed. This bank is 100percent Government owned. I have about 15 years of working’ experience and about 11 of those in the banking sector.  I have worked in various financial institutions in Uganda. Yes, women are mothers to the Nation.

I know iam speaking to very promising young women, men that are here today, there are various Studies that have been carried out. You will not arrive there by Chance. You need to be very intentional about life.

Exploration Stage: I will first talk about the Exploitation stage which is about 21-25 years. Most of you if not all of you fall in that Stage. If you haven’t started, please become intentional and start. You have to have a map of where you want to go. Why I was deliberate to start from there is because most people think while you are at the University, you haven’t started your career.

Well, iam here to tell you that you have started. If you haven’t become intentional about where you want to go, please start. Develop your basic skills.

This is a phase where sometimes you haven’t started getting permanent employment.

There are people you may want to be like in the near future. Look for them and talk to them, see how they do things. People who can guide you have been there before.Seek guidance from them. They can be your good mentors. If you are seen focused, even if you are volunteering that’s to say, even  if you haven’t got your transcripts from your previous Scholl,Society will identify you as a potential person and this is how you will get opportunities.

I remember during my Senior Six, I was well connected and this is how I got my first placement. My back is actual an IT person (information Technology, I did a lot of volunteering. I was not being paid but I was giving Value for Money. My boss said being a sharp person and because of my initiatives was seen as a person who was useful much as I didn’t have my Scripts yet.

So, take learning, Career development and establishing your place very seriously because this is where you actually gain skills you are going to use later alone.

Do not use people you are working with as an excuse. Do you know why? They do not have the same challenges as you. Put in long working hours. Its a male dominated World. Isn’t it?

So, ladies, while still at the University, have a mindset. You need to have financial literacy.

Some of the qualities women leaders include are:

They have got high emotional intelligence. Learn to save. They are good at team, work and multitasking. They make quick decisions. If you do not have this, you will become slaves to the men or someone. Challenges are usually opportunities.

Let’s exercise more independence. It’s the only way Society will respect you.

Ladies tend to be highly emotional. Women are good at team work but let’s learn to manage our emotions. This is known everywhere as our weakeness.

Kampala Deputy lord Mayor Nyanjura Doreen and the Guild President Shamim  Nabassa also attended.
