Kampala Uganda: Prof. Eli Katunguka, who has been serving as Kyambogo University’s Vice Chancellor since 2017has been re-appointed for the second term.
The Universities and other tertiary Institutions act provides that there shall be a vice chancellor for each public university who shall be responsible for academic, administration and financial affairs of the university.
It further states that the Vice chancellor shall be appointed on terms and conditions determined by the University council for five years and shall be eligible for re-appointment for one more term.
This reporter has learnt that on November 1st 2021, Prof Eli Katunguka addressed a letter to the University council chairperson Dr. Mary Gorreti Nakabugo seeking reappointment for a second term. It is on this basis that the former’s request was granted.
The Professor took to twitter to thank everyone for the best wishes. ‘Received a surprise welcome to the university on 17th May by top Management and Deans as I started my second term as vice chancellor Kyambogo University.Thank you everyone’ he tweeted.
The former’s first term in office has been marred with violent strikes like the 12th Week Policy strike among others that were staged by students to challenge a couple of his policies although many attribute the vast growth and development of the Institution to his tireless and well coordinated work
