Simon Jordan and Danny Murphy have rejected a claim from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola that the media are biased towards Liverpool.
The Citizens beat Newcastle United 5-0 on Sunday to take their lead over second-placed Liverpool to three points in the race to win the Premier League title after Jurgen Klopp’s men drew 1-1 against Tottenham on Saturday.
When asked how it felt to have re-taken control of the Premier League title race, Guardiola said: “Well one week ago, even when we were in front, nobody [was saying that]. Everyone in this country supports Liverpool, the media and everyone.
No wonder Pep is confused if Liverpool are ‘routine winning machine’ De Bruyne should join
“But it’s not a problem at all. The situation is what it is. We have to get nine points, maybe six right now, it depends what is going to happen in the next two games in terms of goal difference.”
Former Crystal Palace owner Jordan disagreed with Guardiola with a lot of his colleagues in the media rooting for Man City.
Jordan said on talkSPORT: “It’s not true. There might well be people who support Liverpool and there might well be people who like Liverpool’s brand of play more than Man City’s.
“But everybody was willing Man City to win that Champions League semi-final, everybody wanted to see an all-English final.
“The only way I can see an argument is that people want to see a quadruple. It’s something unique, it’s not anything against Manchester City.”
And former Liverpool midfielder Murphy agreed, he added: “I grew up a Liverpool fan and played for Liverpool, but I’ve eulogised about Klopp and Guardiola equally and the quality of football we are seeing.
“That’s my job to do it. They are both wonderful sides who have been marshalled superbly and led superbly but two of the best managers in world football.
“All the pundits I know, even my Liverpool mates, speak about City in glowing terms.
“I work with Micah [Richards] and he speaks about Liverpool in glowing terms because you have to say what you see.”
