“Explore Uganda” revitalizes Uganda’s tourism potential – Vice Chairperson UTB, Mrs. Muhwezi affirms

Kampala, Uganda: Uganda launched “Explore Uganda the Pearl of Africa” as a new brand that would play as role of visibility of Destination Uganda to the world.

Uganda is one of the World’s best tourism destinations with amazing flora & fauna, beautiful vegetation, amazing climate, beautiful waters, animals of variety species, wonderful geography, diverse culture & people with overwhelming hospitality.

During an exclusive interview with Mrs. Susan Muhwezi Kabonero who doubles as Vice Chairperson of Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) & Chairperson Uganda Hotel Owners Association (UHOA) informs that UTB’s mandate is to promote Uganda as a destination.

She says because the sector was heavily hit by the coronavirus pandemic that led to prolonged lockdown of the country, this role was not effective at the time since tourism activities were paralyzed so there was need to invent a new mode of revamping the sector through promotion & in so doing they came up “Explore Uganda” as a new Brand to do this.

“Tourism sector and hospitality are identical meaning that what affects one automatically spreads to the other so we have great belief that our new baby “Explore Uganda” will with no doubt give them a new breathe of life” Susan remarks.

“Explore Uganda the Pearl of Africa on 21, Feb, 2022 was unveiled by Museveni at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala and On 30th March, 2022, Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), the government of Uganda’s destination marketing organization, launched its new destination brand “Explore Uganda, The Pearl of Africa”, as part of a tourism and media launch event held at the Sheraton Jumeriah Beach Resort in Dubai, United Arab Emirates – a leading cultural, business and financial center of the world.

Mrs. Susan points that the tourism sector is such wide that it encompasses areas of Tour operators, Tour agents, Hotel owners, Lodge owners so all these were equally affected when the sector was hit but with the new brand “Explore Uganda” all these are seeing a positive shift towards revamping though there is still a need for government intervention especially on the stimulus package to help them meet loan repayment.

She says the package that was disbursed to them was not enough to revitalize the sector because the grant was loan attached with high interest rates and bureaucracy.
