Dr. Byarugaba Baterana handing over office to Dr. Rosemary Byanyima
Mulago National Referral Hospital Executive Director, Dr. Byarugaba Baterana has been forced to hand over his office to deputy ED Dr. Rosemary Byanyima as investigations into his case go on.
Dr. Baterana was last week was arrested by the State House Health Monitoring Unit led by Dr. Warren Namara. He is facing four counts of embezzlement, abuse of office, fraudulent false accounting, and causing financial loss contrary to section 23 of the Anti-Corruption act.
Dr. Baterana is being investigated for swindling and mismanaging money amounting up to Shs.28b.
After Baterana was arrested, questioned and briefly detained at Jinja Road police station, Health Ministry Permanent Secretary Dr. Diana Atwine interdicted him and ordered him to hand over office to allow smooth investigation of his case.
“You are therefore required to hand over office to your deputy director Rosemary Byanyima in accordance with section F-d(4) of the public service standing orders and keep away from your duty station until you are advised otherwise. During this period you shall not leave the country without my written permission,” Dr. Diana’ Atwine’s letter read.
During his period of interdiction, Dr. Baterana will be getting half salary.
