OYAM – The Territorial Police in Oyam District have recovered dozens of motorcycle number plates and tools believed to be used in a criminal racket after an intelligence-led operation conducted on 25 November 2025.
According to PJ Okema, the Police Spokesperson for the North Kyoga Region, the operation was launched after credible intelligence revealed that an organized group of criminals had been dismantling and altering number plates of suspected stolen motorcycles at the residence of a local resident, identified as Ayen Calvine, in Ajali Opoo Village, Adel Parish, Minakulu Sub-county.
A search of Ayen’s home and the surrounding area—conducted in the presence of the LC1 Chairperson and local community members—led to a major breakthrough. Officers recovered approximately 40 motorcycle number plates buried in a banana plantation near the residence.
Police also seized a box containing spanners and other tools typically used to dismantle or modify motorcycles, as well as three bundles of dried opium and additional items linked to criminal activity.
Despite the significant recovery, no arrests have been made. Okema noted that some of the suspects are already known to authorities, and efforts to apprehend them are underway.
Police urged the public to continue cooperating with security forces to help dismantle criminal networks in the district.
“We encourage community members to work closely with us to ensure these criminals are captured and brought to justice,” Okema said.
