BCCI takes dig at Mohsin Naqvi as India lift historic Women’s World Cup trophy in Navi Mumbai: ‘Asia Cup trophy has still not landed…’

Recalling Mohsin Naqvi’s stubbornness, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia joked that the Indian women’s team received their World Cup trophy swiftly and without fuss unlike the drama the Pakistani politician has created.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia took a dig at Mohsin Naqvi and threatened strict action against the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman over the Asia Cup trophy fiasco after the Indian women’s cricket team scripted history by winning the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025.

India’s first-ever Women’s World Cup victory came against South Africa just a few minutes past midnight on Sunday as the hosts won the mega final by 52 runs in front of home fans at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Loud cheers, congratulatory messages and emotional moments engulfed the iconic venue as Harmanpreet Kaur became the first Indian captain ever to receive the famous trophy from International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah.

After the trophy presentation ceremony, BCCI Secretary Saikia slammed ACC head Naqvi, who has forcefully held onto the Asia Cup 2025 trophy since 28 September, as Team India refused to take the silverware from him in Dubai.

Saikia quipped that the women’s team got their trophy quickly and calmly, a stark contrast to the drama Naqvi had stirred up.

“… After today’s victory, our team got the trophy immediately. When our men’s team won the Asia Cup in Dubai, the trophy, till date, has not landed in the BCCI office…,” BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia said.

Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister, is hellbent that a BCCI official and Team India member must collect the trophy from him. But Saikia threatened him with strict action as he said that the matter would be raised at the ICC meeting on 4 November.

“10 days ago, we have written to the ACC Chairperson, requesting to hand over the trophy to BCCI at the earliest. But till today, we have not received the trophy. We are waiting for another day. If we do not get the trophy by 3 November, a meeting will be held at ICC in Dubai. We will raise our grievance before the apex body of international cricket. I am sure ICC will do justice and help India get the trophy at the earliest,” he added.
