We are still handling your issues-Minister Mugasa tells Art teachers in Parliament

Members of Uganda National Teacher’s Union (UNATU) yesterday appeared  before the Education and Sports Committee of Parliament.
The State Minister for Public Service Mugasa Grace Mary informed the committee that negotiations on the salary disparities of art teachers is on going and the inter- ministerial committee has not yet sat to give a comprehensive report on the matter.
The minister’s response did not go well with the general secretary of the Uganda National Teachers Union (Unatu) Baguma Filbert who complained of not meeting with the concerned ministries to solve the problem salary disparities of art teachers.
The public service minister Mugasa Grace Mary however requested  the art teachers to remain teaching as they bargain  with government on their salary  increment.
She also emphasized that government is to increase their Salaries in the next financial year 2026-2027  in a phased manner.
chairpersons of the two committees of education and Public Service.  James Kubeketerya  and  Martin Mapenduzi agreed  with MPs sitting on both committees to meet on Thursday to interface with Ministries of Eeducation and Finance to conclude the matter.
Nabirye Teddy,  a Secondary art teacher of  Kololo High School is one of the teachers who has been affected by the salary disparities.
At the beginning of third term, Art teachers under the Uganda National Teachers Union (Unatu) went on strike on salary disparities .
They later suspended the strike following government’s promise to handle their matter.
