Iganga, Uganda: A total of 102 people have been arrested following a joint intelligence-led operation conducted by the Uganda Police Force and the Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force (JATT) in Iganga Municipality, Busoga East region.
The operation, which took place on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, targeted suspected criminal groups operating around Nkono Central Cell, Nkono Ward, Northern Division, along Old Market Street in Iganga Town.
According to the Busoga East Regional Police Spokesperson, ASP Michael Kasadha, the operation was carried out following a recent attack on JATT officers on October 6, 2025, at Nkono Garage, where operatives had gone to arrest a suspect linked to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terror network.
“The suspects reportedly turned violent and assaulted the security officers, which enabled the prime suspect to escape,” ASP Kasadha said. “However, with the help of local leaders, the team screened the suspects; 73 were exonerated, while 29 were detained on charges of obstruction and assaulting security operatives on lawful duty.”
Among those detained are Muyimba Faizal, Kakaire Ivan, Rozali Umar, Kawanguzi Rogers, Wasswa Shafik, Isabirye Majidu, Mukisa Dan, Oyite Juma, Parapandi Adonia, Mubenzi Joshua, Nabongha Joel, and Musoga Ibrahim.
Others include Nabakuba Charles, Wasswa Shakul, Mutasa Ramathan, Iganga Umar, Tenywa Ibra, Ngobi Silver, Kiyemba Akram, Kirunda Gerald, Kakaire Kasim, Isabirye Adoni, Kagungul Badiru, Wasswa Stephen, Kaima Alex, Dhabuliwo Ashiraf, Muzaale Benard, Nzingo Peter, Waiswa Denis, and Kibwika Reagan.
Kasadha confirmed that the suspects are currently being held at Nkono Police Post, pending further screening and interrogation.
Police Warn Against Obstructing Security Operations
ASP Kasadha clarified that the operation was also aimed at dismantling disorganized groups of young men who have been disguising themselves as mechanics in garages around the Old Market area, and allegedly using the space for criminal activities.
“Further investigations are ongoing to establish more facts. Those found culpable shall be arraigned before court to answer appropriate charges,” he said, warning the public against interfering with ongoing security operations.
The arrests come amid heightened vigilance by security agencies across the Busoga sub-region following increased counter-terror operations targeting ADF-linked cells and other criminal gangs.
Police reiterated that cooperation between security forces and local communities remains essential in maintaining law and order.
