KAMPALA— The race for Rubaga East Constituency has officially begun, with Katongole Singh, a familiar face in the city’s political and business circles, now formally nominated to contest as Member of Parliament in the upcoming 2026 general elections.

The nomination, which took place at the Electoral Commission offices in Kampala, drew enthusiastic supporters dressed in yellow chanting songs of solidarity and waving banners bearing Singh’s portrait and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) logo.

Speaking to journalists shortly after receiving his nomination certificate, Katongole Singh expressed confidence in his bid and optimism about Rubaga East’s future, pledging to build on the ongoing development initiatives being implemented under the NRM government.

“I am humbled by this opportunity to once again serve the people of Rubaga East,” Singh said. “Yes, there are challenges in our communities from poor roads and unemployment to sanitation and health concerns but the government and our leaders are addressing them step by step. What matters now is continuity and cooperation.”

Rubaga East, one of Kampala’s most vibrant and densely populated constituencies, is home to a diverse mix of traders, students, artisans, and professionals. Despite its economic potential, the area still grapples with infrastructure bottlenecks, youth unemployment, and poor waste management issues that have featured prominently in every election cycle.Katongole Singh talking to journalists.Photo by Ronald Kabuubi/KMA Updates.

Singh, who has been active in both community outreach and business leadership, said his focus will be on job creation, youth empowerment, and improving service delivery, aligning his agenda with the broader NRM vision of socio-economic transformation.

“We must work together as Rubaga people,” he added. “Development is not about division or shouting slogans it’s about rolling up our sleeves and solving problems.”

Backed by strong support from residents, Singh said he is confident he will win the 2026 race, pointing to his good relationship with the people and the NRM’s increasing popularity in Kampala’s urban areas.

“I have full faith that the people of Rubaga East will vote for development and unity,” he said with a smile. “We are aiming for over 80,000 votes and we shall achieve that through honest work, listening to the people, and delivering on our promises.”

As the campaign period nears, Singh emphasized that his approach would remain issue-based and people-centered, focusing on inclusive growth rather than political confrontation. He also commended the Electoral Commission for managing a transparent nomination exercise, urging all candidates to maintain peace and respect electoral laws.

“This is our time to build, not to fight,” he remarked. “Rubaga East deserves leaders who can unite people, not divide them.”

With his nomination now sealed, Katongole Singh joins a growing list of candidates seeking to represent Kampala constituencies under the ruling NRM ticket, a move that reflects the party’s renewed push to strengthen its presence in the capital ahead of the 2026 elections.
