Uganda Development Bank (UDB) has been honored with the Outstanding Business Sustainability Achievement Award 2025 at the Karlsruhe Sustainable Finance Awards, during the Global Sustainable Finance Conference (GSFC) in Karlsruhe, Germany.
The accolade was received by UDB’s Managing Director, Dr. Patricia Ojangole, and marks another milestone in the Bank’s journey toward advancing inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
Now in its 15th year, the GSFC is a premier global forum dedicated to exploring practical and implementation-ready solutions for sustainable banking and finance.
Unlike general discussions, the conference emphasizes transformative approaches that embed sustainability into financial institutions and their strategies.

Its awards specifically recognize institutions and CEOs that have integrated economic, social, and environmental sustainability into their organizational culture while driving impact.
In its citation, the jury praised UDB as “a driving force for inclusive and sustainable growth” in Uganda.
“Established as the country’s national development finance institution, the Bank has been instrumental in transforming agriculture, industry, infrastructure, and services by providing long-term capital where it is most needed. UDB’s work goes beyond financial support, focusing on creating opportunities, enhancing food security, boosting manufacturing, and supporting the services sector-” the Citation noted
Dr. Ojangole described the award as “a significant milestone” that reinforces UDB’s role in fostering an inclusive, green, and sustainable Ugandan economy.
“The Bank remains committed to prioritizing holistic sustainability in its practices, promoting this approach, and inspiring all other stakeholders to raise awareness of sustainable development,” Dr. Ojangole added.
This recognition follows earlier achievements by the Bank and its leadership.
In 2024, Dr. Ojangole won the Sustainability Leader of the Year Award at the same conference, her fourth consecutive win.
The Bank was also awarded the Sustainability Standards and Certification Initiative, highlighting its strong governance framework, rigorous compliance, and commitment to high-impact sustainable finance.
Through both financial and non-financial services, UDB has demonstrated excellence in embedding sustainability across its operations.
Its success reflects a strong organizational capacity to mobilize, invest, and lend for projects that generate social, economic, and environmental benefits, while addressing climate change.
The Global Sustainable Finance Conference, conceived in 2009 after the global financial crisis and held annually since 2011, is among the world’s oldest platforms advancing sustainable finance.
UDB’s latest award underscores its growing international recognition as a leader in sustainable development finance.
