The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has postponed the highly anticipated which was scheduled to take place on October 5.
The announcement was made on Thursday by KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki during a briefing at the Uganda Media Centre.
According to KCCA, the city festival had been pushed to October 12, 2025 at Kololo Independence Grounds.
According to Buzeki, the decision followed consultations with security and other stakeholders.
“The consultations recommended rescheduling to allow hosting of the 63rd Independence Celebrations first,” she told journalists.
Uganda’s Independence Day celebrations will also be held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, the same venue initially booked for the festival.
Buzeki urged city dwellers to turn up in large numbers for the event.
“The fete welcomes everyone regardless of age, gender or social status,” she said. “At this event, people will be able to showcase culture in addition to other life-changing programs such as medical camps, among others.”
She emphasized that the festival will be a celebration of Kampala as both a home and a workplace.
“I urge the people of Kampala and well-wishers to attend in big numbers, as they will be celebrating their city where they live and also work,” she added.
The press briefing was also attended by police spokespersons Kituuma and Patrick Onyango.
