Gen Kainerugaba also acknowledged the longstanding relations between the two countries, dating back to when Sudan allowed the UPDF to pursue its enemies in present-day South Sudan.
The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has this Wednesday morning met with Sudan’s Ambassador to Uganda, Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmed.
The meeting was held at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe.
The diplomat was accompanied by Maj Gen Dr Faisal Al Tayeb Ali Khogali, the Military Attaché of the Republic of Sudan to Uganda.
According to a statement from the CDF’s office, during the meeting, the Ambassador “commended the Uganda People’s Defence Forces’ (UPDF) role in promoting regional peace and security.”
The Sudanese diplomat also “expressed Sudan’s eagerness to restore military cooperation.”
Gen Kainerugaba welcomed the Ambassador and expressed” Uganda’s optimism about achieving total peace in Sudan.”

The army chief’s remarks come at a time when Sudan is facing a bloody internal civil war.
The ongoing conflict between rival militaries in Sudan has left vast areas devastated and people returning to their homes without adequate shelter and only limited access to water and food.
Civilians face daily threats from shelling, air strikes and drone attacks, with fierce clashes reported in north-eastern districts of North Darfur in recent weeks.
Clashes have displaced millions and left half the population of Sudan acutely food insecure – nearly 25 million people. Famine has also been officially declared in North Darfur and South Kordofan.

Gen Kainerugaba also acknowledged the longstanding relations between the two countries, dating back to when Sudan allowed the UPDF to pursue its enemies in present-day South Sudan.
He also highlighted Uganda’s willingness to cooperate with Sudan, mirroring its partnerships with other African countries.
The Chief of Defence Forces has been actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to strengthen regional partnerships, recently meeting with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit to discuss security cooperation, peace initiatives, and economic collaboration.
He has also met several regional Presidents and African military leaders.
