Electoral Commission Clears Eight Presidential Candidates for 2026 Elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) has confirmed the nomination of eight candidates who will contest in the January 2026 presidential elections.

Byabakama noted that the candidates’ names will officially appear on the ballot paper for the upcoming polls scheduled for January 2026, marking the start of a heated campaign season.

In his remarks, the EC Chairperson reminded all aspirants to adhere to electoral laws and ensure that their supporters conduct themselves responsibly during the campaign period. He emphasized that campaigns should be peaceful, orderly, and within the confines of the law.

“We urge candidates to guide their supporters to avoid acts that may disrupt public order. Campaign rallies should not be conducted on public roads, in schools, hospitals, or other areas that may inconvenience Ugandans in their daily lives,” Byabakama stated.

The EC has also tasked candidates and their agents to cooperate with security agencies and local authorities in organizing campaign activities to prevent violence and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

The confirmation of the eight aspirants signals the official start of the campaign trail, which is expected to dominate the national agenda as Uganda prepares to elect its next leader in early 2026.
