Gazelles to face Egypt or South Sudan in AfroBasket Quarterfinals.
The playoffs for the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket are set following the completion of the group phase on Monday.
Uganda, Mali, hosts Côte d’Ivoire and defending champions Nigeria sealed direct slots to the quarterfinals after topping their respective groups, leaving their other eight teams to challenge for the remaining four slots.
The qualification for the quarterfinals will be played on Wednesday with Mozambique taking on Guinea in the first game of the day at midday (local time).
The second game, which is of interest for Uganda, will be between Zone V teams Egypt and South Sudan. The winner of this tie will battle Gazelles in the quarterfinals.
It should be noted that the Gazelles played both Egypt and South Sudan during the qualifiers for AfroBasket. While the Gazelles beat South Sudan during the round-robin play, they lost to Egypt before avenging that defeat in the final to earn direct qualification.
The other playoffs for the quarterfinals will see Rwanda take on 2023 losing finalists Senegal while Angola face Cameroon.
