UAE: Avoid midday funeral, burial rites to prevent heat-related risks, authority urges

In light of the soaring summer temperatures, UAE authorities are urging residents to perform funeral prayers and burial procedures during the early morning or evening hours, when the intensity of the sun is at its lowest.

The General Authority for Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat advised worshippers to avoid holding funeral rites between 9am and 5pm to reduce the risk of sunstroke and heat exhaustion.

Preserving human life is one of their essential objectives, the authority emphasised, adding that this principle is strongly upheld by the country’s leadership through thoughtful legislation and public safety measures.

This initiative is part of the authority’s broader programme to help residents during the summer. On May 23, the authority announced that it will provide dedicated shaded areas in Mosques and public squares, offering much-needed protection from the intense heat and the high temperatures.

Summer in the UAE isn’t just uncomfortable — it can be dangerous. Prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures can lead to serious health conditions, especially for vulnerable groups like the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses.

With the intense heat and high humidity levels, residents face increased risks of dehydration, heatstroke, skin irritation, and respiratory issues. However, by following expert advice and adopting a few simple precautions, you can enjoy a safer and healthier summer.
