Deadly Homecoming: Entebbe Police Probe Shocking Murder of Elderly Couple
Entebbe — Police in Entebbe have arrested two suspects in connection with the brutal murder of an elderly couple, David Mutaaga and Deborah Florence Mutaaga, who had recently returned to Uganda after spending more than three decades in Zurich, Switzerland.
The couple was found dead at their residence in Lugonjo, Nakiwogo Cell, Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District, on Sunday night, just hours after hosting a welcome gathering with family and close friends.
Preliminary police findings suggest that the assailant had conducted prior surveillance of the home and entered the compound using an electric pole as leverage to scale the perimeter wall.
At the time of the attack, David Mutaaga was reportedly enjoying a glass of wine, while Deborah was engaged in a phone call.
During the call, she sensed danger and urgently reached out to two people, Angela Nakalema and David Golooba, both domestic workers at the Mutaaga residence, pleading with them to return to the home immediately.
She also contacted a neighbour and another acquaintance. Despite her efforts to raise the alarm, help arrived too late.
Police say the two domestic workers, Nakalema and Golooba, had left the premises around 7:45 p.m., shortly before the attack occurred. Both have been arrested to assist with the ongoing investigation.
“We have arrested these individuals to aid our investigations, we are following all leads to find the killer and to understand the motive behind this horrifying crime,” said Patrick Onyango, spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police.
CCTV footage recovered from the scene shows a man dressed in black and wearing a mask, climbing into the compound using an electric pole and moving with calculated precision to avoid security cameras.
Investigators say the intruder’s movements suggest he was familiar with the layout of the property, including the locations of surveillance equipment.
When police responded to a distress call from a neighbour, they arrived to find the main gate wide open and David Mutaaga’s lifeless body near the entrance.
Deborah’s body was discovered inside the house. Authorities confirmed that no valuables were taken during the incident; mobile phones, money, and personal items were untouched, ruling out robbery as a primary motive.
Emerging leads indicate that the crime may have been driven by a property-related family dispute. Investigators are analysing CCTV audio that allegedly captured the assailant making references to family grievances during the attack.
Police believe the suspect may have had personal or financial motives connected to the couple’s return and their assets in Uganda.
The investigation remains active as detectives examine forensic evidence and continue to question the arrested individuals. Police have appealed to the public for any information that may assist in identifying the masked intruder and bringing those responsible to justice.
The double murder has sent shockwaves through the Entebbe community, particularly among neighbours and relatives who had gathered to welcome the couple back to Uganda after decades abroad.
