Police Arrest Woman Linked to Mysterious Death of Dr. Spire Kiggundu.

“CCTV footage shows the suspect leaving the room that had earlier been booked by the deceased,” Onyango said.

Kampala, Uganda: Police have arrested a woman suspected to have been the last person seen with the late Dr. John Spire Kiggundu, whose body was discovered under unclear circumstances at Dream Guest House in Lubowa, along Entebbe Road.

The suspect, identified as Eva Mbabazi, is believed to be in her early 20s.

Her arrest comes days after several social media users named her as having been with the prominent medical practitioner shortly before his death.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SSP Patrick Onyango, Dr. Kiggundu checked into the guest house at around 5:45 PM on June 21, 2025.

His lifeless body was found in the same room barely an hour later.

“CCTV footage shows the suspect leaving the room that had earlier been booked by the deceased,” Onyango said.

“We have recorded her statement, and a general inquiry file has been submitted to the state attorney for further guidance.”

Dr. Kiggundu, a well-known figure in Uganda’s medical community, is said to have succumbed to a heart attack though police are continuing investigations.

The deceased was the President of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Uganda (ALSU)

Authorities have urged the public to refrain from spreading speculation as the investigation progresses.
