President Joseph Boakai’s Plane Suffers Landing Scare At Liberian Airport
The Liberian airport authorities briefly cancelled all inbound flights after a private jet ferrying President Joseph Boakai experienced a near-crash-landing incident. One of the jet’s tires reportedly burst during landing, causing the aircraft to abruptly stop mid-runway.
In a statement, the Liberian airport authorities confirmed the incident but dismissed reports that it was caused by poor runway conditions. “The incident was caused solely by a mechanical failure involving the aircraft’s tire and not due to any structural defect of the runway,” the statement said.
The president was headed back to the country after a trip to Nigeria to attend an ECOWAS meeting. The incident sparked discussion on social media about the use of private jets and the president’s safety.
