The two teams have shared frosty relations on the field in recent months, in a fallout of the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent four-day military conflict between the two nations.

The two arch-rivals have faced each other 13 times in the U-19 Asia Cup, with India currently leading by a 9-3 scoreline. This includes a tie – in the final of the 2012 edition which was played in the 50-over format.

Opening batter Suryavanshi is the only member of the Indian squad in the ongoing tournament who had also featured in the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament in Qatar last month.

Suryavanshi had scored 45 in that game, narrowly missing out on his half-century, with the Men in Blue getting bundled out for a sub-par 136 and later suffering an eight-wicket defeat.

Suryavanshi had brought up his century in just 56 deliveries, and would go on to smash nine fours and 14 sixes during his 95-ball innings, helping the Ayush Mhatre-led side to a match-winning total of 433/6.

The upcoming showdown between India and Pakistan in the U-19 Asia Cup will be the sixth meeting between the two arch-rivals across tournaments.

India had beaten Pakistan thrice in as many Sundays during the senior men’s Asia Cup in September, including in the final in which the Men in Blue clinched their third Asian T20 title and their ninth overall.

India had also defeated Pakistan in the Women’s World Cup showdown in Colombo in October. Pakistan, however, bounced back in their ACC Asia Cup Rising Stars showdown in Doha, Qatar last month.

India, thus, are leading 4-1 against Pakistan across tournaments since September, not including Hong Kong Sixes and other non-ICC events.
