Mathematics Convention 2025: King’s College Budo Wins Multiple Medals in India

King’s College, Budo (KCB) has made a remarkable debut on the global mathematics stage, securing silver and bronze medals at the 2025 International Young Mathematicians Convention (IYMC) held in Lucknow, India.

The biennial event, hosted at City Montessori School (CMS) from 3–6 November 2025, brought together young mathematicians from across Africa, Europe, Asia, and Australia, with Indian schools forming the largest contingent.

King’s College Budo entered the competition with a strong delegation of 17 students supported by five mathematics teachers: Mrs. Nabunya Margaret Kabuye, Mr. Lubega James, Mr. Walusimbi John, Mrs. Nakiranda Grace Muwanguzi, and the delegation leader, Mrs. Assumpta Kasamba.

Despite being first-time participants, the students delivered an outstanding performance in both individual and team-based contests. Six students clinched medals in the individual competitions:

Silver Medalists
• Otile Jensen (Junior)
• Atamba Jayden (Junior)
• Kizito Cleophas (Junior)

Bronze Medalists
• Kasiima Joshua (Senior)
• Kasirye Sira Nsibirwa (Junior)
• Namakula Skyler (Junior)

Competing under Uganda’s official national team name, Team Nebula, the students added to their medal haul with a series of team awards, including:

• First Runner-Up – Mathmania (Team contest)
• Second Runner-Up – Mathmania (Team contest) — twice
• Second Runner-Up – Crack the Code (Puzzle contest)
• Second Runner-Up – Junior Category (Overall)
• Most Popular Team Award — “The Beloved Bunch”

In a highlight moment, Team Nebula also won the Best Cultural Presentation trophy for an inter-cultural performance celebrating Uganda’s rich artistic heritage.

Mr. Lubega James, Head of the Mathematics Department, commended the students for their discipline, resilience, and teamwork. He also thanked the Headmaster, Canon John Fred Kazibwe, for his steadfast support, noting that participation in international competitions significantly enhances students’ exposure and boosts their prospects for placement in global universities.

Certificates and accolades earned at IYMC 2025 are expected to strengthen future academic applications for the participating students.
